NATO split as Iraq war deadlock continues

Nato was still deadlocked today as emergency talks went on to repair the damage of a 16-3 split over Iraq.

France, Germany and Belgium remained defiant on the second day of negotiations at NATO headquarters in Belgium – flatly refusing to agree to bolster Turkey’s defences in case doing so implied acceptance that war was inevitable.
