Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was admitted to a New York hospital over the weekend for a medical test.

Kissinger, 80, entered the New York-Weill Cornell Medical Centre on Saturday and was undergoing a diagnostic urological procedure, said spokeswoman Myrna Manners. She said he was expected to be released soon she declined to be specific.

Jessie Incao, a spokeswoman at Kissinger Associates, his Manhattan-based consulting firm, also declined to comment.

Kissinger served as secretary of state under presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and as Nixon’s national security adviser.

Along with Le Duc Tho, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for negotiating then end of the Vietnam war.

Le Duc Tho, the North Vietnamese negotiator declined to accept.
