Thousands evacuated as bombs defused in Germany

Some 16,000 residents of the German city of Osnabrueck were evacuated today for several hours as authorities defused and removed five 10-ton Second World War.

Some 16,000 residents of the German city of Osnabrueck were evacuated today for several hours as authorities defused and removed five 10-ton Second World War.

The bombs were found near the main train station in the western city in Lower Saxony. Osnabrueck was badly damaged by allied air attacks during the war.

Authorities evacuated everyone from a one-kilometre radius around the area as the bombs were removed.

Wartime bombs, grenades and other unexploded munitions are still uncovered regularly in Germany.
