US soldiers shot in Kuwait

Two American soldiers were seriously wounded by a gunman who fired on them as they travelled along a road south of Kuwait city today.

One American was wounded in the face and the other in the shoulder, said a US spokesman.

Both victims were airlifted to a Kuwaiti military hospital where their conditions were said to be serious but not life-threatening.

The shooting occurred about 7.30am (Irish time) while the soldiers were travelling between the US military base of Camp Doha to the town of Arifjan, the spokesman said.
