Teenager opens fire at Trinidad school
A 17-year-old armed with his father's gun has died in a shoot-out with police after injuring a security guard at a school in Trinidad.
Police say it isn't clear why Phillip Seerattan opened fire at the International School in Port of Spain.
School officials say he applied for acceptance at the school a year ago and was rejected, according to television news reports.
Seerattan shot security guard William Ramnarine five times in the groin and hip and retreated to the school's computer room.
Assistant police commissioner Everald Snaggs says he then fired a shot at police. It isn't clear if there were other students in the computer room.
Police returned fire, shooting Seerattan in the head. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The security guard is in a critical condition at the hospital.
Police say there were no other injuries. Classes had ended for the day, but several students still on campus said they heard the shots and took cover.
