Aftershock hits quake tragedy village
An aftershock rocked San Giuliano di Puglia today less than two weeks after a strong tremor toppled a school in the Italian village and killed 26 children inside.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The 4.2 magnitude aftershock had the same epicentre as the October 31 quake, in the area around San Giuliano, about 80 miles north-east of Naples.
The tremor was felt in several regions in southern Italy, sending scores of panicked residents into the streets. In the Abruzzo regions some schools were evacuated.
San Giuliano’s 1,200 residents have been living in tents since after the quake. Most buildings were deemed too dangerous to live in.
Aftershocks have continued to rattle the area, but today’s was the strongest one since the day after the quake.
