Sniper arrests: Two were asleep in van

Two people have been arrested by police investigating the Washington sniper shootings.

The occupants of a white van were arrested by police as they slept. The van was located at the side of the road in Washington, near the scenes of the recent shootings.

One of the arrested men is believed to be John Allen Muhammad, for whom an arrest warrant was issued last night.

The 42-year-old was being sought on a federal weapons charge.

It is understood that the second arrested man is his stepson.

A sniper has killed 10 and critically wounded three people since October 2.

The two were taken into custody without incident, according to Maryland State Police. A passing motorist alerted police to the presence of the white van in a rest area beside the road.
