Iraq calls Bush 'the Hitler of Washington'
An Iraqi newspaper today condemned US President George Bush as 'the Hitler of Washington' and urged the UN Security Council to oppose US moves for a tough new resolution on Baghdad.
"The Security Council, with its permanent and non-permanent members, should take a firm stand against this US attempt and not bend to pressure and blackmails on the expense of Iraq," the ruling Baath party’s al-Thawra newspaper said in a front page editorial.
It said the proposed resolution - giving UN arms inspectors broad new powers to hunt for weapons of mass destruction - would be used by the US to add a false international legitimacy to its war against Iraq.
"The duties of the Security Council are those which are defined by the UN charter, not those desired by the Hitler of Washington," the newspaper said, referring to Bush.
Bush has said he wants Iraqi President Saddam Hussein toppled, accusing him of stockpiling nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and harbouring terrorists.
