Pakistan police arrest Islamic militants
Pakistan police today arrested five suspected Islamic militants accused of deadly attacks against foreigners and plotting to kill the president.
The roundup in Karachi came a day after police in the port city said they had arrested the alleged mastermind of a car bombing that killed 11 French engineers and three Pakistanis in May.
It was the deadliest attack against foreigners this year.
The men arrested today join a growing list of suspects captured in the last few weeks in a concerted effort by police and intelligence agencies to snare Pakistani militants involved in attacks on churches, Western diplomats, and foreign workers.
Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider said the government “is taking all possible measures to eliminate terrorism from the country.”
