Ariane-5 rocket blasts off from French Guiana

With a burst of light, an Ariane-5 rocket soared into the darkness last night carrying two European satellites.

The rocket held the French-made MSG-1 weather satellite and the Italian Atlantic Bird 1 telecoms satellite.
