Israelis arrest teen on suicide bomb charge
Israeli police today arrested a 16-year-old Palestinian girl on suspicion she planned to carry out a suicide bombing.
The girl, who cannot be named because of her age, shuffled into a Jerusalem court with her wrists handcuffed and ankles manacled.
Wearing a bright pink shirt over a black T-shirt, the girl stumbled several times.
She was arrested in an Arab area in northern Jerusalem, based on information received by Israeli intelligence that she was planning to carry out a suicide bombing, said police spokesman Kobi Zrihen.
"She wasn’t wearing any explosives when we found her," Zrihen said.
Zrihen said she confessed to planning an attack after she was arrested, a charge her lawyer dismissed.
"There was nothing for her to confess. They did not find a thing, half of a thing, on her," said Leah Tzemel.
"She told me that once, a while ago, someone offered her the chance to participate in an attack, at the time she was tempted, but did not accept," he added.
She was ordered held in custody until Friday.
