Al Fayed settles lawsuit over son's death probe

A lawsuit against Harrods owner Mohammed Al Fayed over the cost of hiring an investigator to look into the death of his son has been settled.

Dodi Al Fayed was killed in a 1997 Paris car crash with Diana, Princess of Wales.

Terms of the settlement were not released.

The breach-of-contract lawsuit had been scheduled to go to trial in Los Angeles yesterday but was settled on Monday, said Mr Al Fayed’s US lawyer, Eric Stokel.

Mr Al Fayed had been sued by the US law firm of Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman Machtinger & Kinsella, which claimed it was owed £55,000 (€87,540) for services that included hiring an investigator to look into a "derogatory remark" about Dodi.

Mr Al Fayed has said he never authorised the investigation and refused to pay any bills from the law firm, according to court papers.
