British Muslim appeals death sentence

The British Islamic militant sentenced to death for masterminding the abduction and murder of US reporter Daniel Pearl today filed an appeal against his sentence, a defence lawyer said.

Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh was convicted on Monday and sentenced to death by hanging.

His appeal, filed in a Karachi court, claims the verdict was based upon ‘‘fake, false and provenly planted evidence’’.
