Ex-weapons inspector warns against attack on Iraq

A war on Iraq which toppled dictator Saddam Hussein could lead directly to takeover by anti-Western Islamic fundamentalists, destabilising the whole Middle East, the former head of UN weapons inspectors in the country warned today.

In a speech at Westminster, Scott Ritter warned that the US and UK should not assume that the Iraqi people would accept the imposition of a pro-Western government in their country.
