Biggs bride-to-be arrives in prison

Ronnie Biggs's Brazilian bride-to-be has arrived at Belmarsh Prison for her marriage to the Great Train Robber.

Raimunda Rothen, 54, wore a white cotton trouser suit and had her dark hair cropped when she stepped into the top security south-east London jail.

Beside her was Michael Biggs, the couple's 27-year-old son who accompanied his father back to Britain last year after more than 30 years on the run.

Michael was cradling his two-year-old daughter Ingrid as the wedding party of about 12 entered the prison.

The private ceremony, conducted by Rev David Powe, is expected to take about half an hour.

Biggs, 72, who is serving the remaining 28 years of his sentence for the 1963 robbery, is in poor health and partially paralysed after four strokes.

Raimunda was said to have agreed to tie the knot - he proposed four times - as she feared he was near the end of his life.

Biggs was part of a gang which ambushed a Glasgow to London train in 1963 netting £2.6m (€4m) in cash. He was sentenced to 30 years but served just 15 months before escaping from Wandsworth Jail in London in 1965.

He spent 13,068 days on the run, most of them in Brazil, where he met Raimunda, a Samba club dancer, in Rio 1971.
