Rescue workers in Indonesia today searched for charred bodies on the top floor of a burned out nightclub as authorities confirmed that 46 people had died in the blaze in south Sumatra province.

The club in the city of Palembang did not have proper fire exits, officials said. Rescuers had to blast through a wall to free dozens of people while others jumped to their deaths as flames engulfed the roof.
