Another car bomb explodes in Spain

A car bomb has exploded in the northern city of Santander, two hours after a package bomb went off on the southern coast.

No injuries were reported in either of the two explosions, which were timed with the end of the European Union summit in Seville.

The fifth bomb blast in two days exploded at 2.47pm (1.47pm Irish time) in Santander, a coastal city 244 miles from Madrid.

Earlier, a package bomb exploded in a hotel car park in the southern coastal city of Malaga. No one was injured in the blast.

As in previous car bombings, police in Santander received a telephone warning that a Renault Clio would go off in 30 minutes.

A police spokesman said authorities were able to evacuate the area but that the car bomb exploded five minutes before the warning indicated.

At the start of the European Union summit on Friday, three car bombs rocked the southern cities of Marbella and Fuengirola and the northeast city of Zaragoza.
