Greenpeace blockades Esso refinery in France
Around 60 Greenpeace activists have blocked access to an Esso refinery near the French city of Le Havre in protest at the oil company’s attitude towards global warming.
Greenpeace sent its flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, up the River Seine to Le Havre, where protestors used inflatable boats to prevent tankers from leaving Esso’s Port Jerome refinery.
In a statement, the group said: “Regardless of where it operates, whether under the name of Exxon, Esso or Mobil, this oil company has done more than any other to sabotage international action on climate change.”
