The former US president Jimmy Carter is arriving in Cuba today, for a six day visit aimed at creating closer ties between the two neighbours.

The former US President Jimmy Carter is arriving in Cuba today, for a six day visit aimed at creating closer ties between the two neighbours.

He will hold talks in Havana with Cuban President Fidel Castro, before a televised address to the nation.

Mr. Carter is the highest profile US politician to visit the country since President Castro came to power 43 years ago.
