Amnesty refused access to Jenin refugee camp

Amnesty International has accused the Israeli army of denying them access to the Jenin refugee camp to investigate alleged human rights abuses.

An Amnesty delegation was sent to the West Bank city to gather evidence about the fate of the people who died there during a three-week-old ongoing Israeli invasion.

Professor Derrick Pounder, A British forensic expert who was part of the team, said Israeli forces prevented them from entering the refugee camp in Jenin or the city’s hospital.

"International human rights and humanitarian law require that forensic investigations are conducted in this respect," he said.

"The refusal to allow us to conduct or even to assist in enabling others to conduct such investigations is very serious and gives rise to questions about the authorities’ motives."
