Powell 'will meet' Arafat

A meeting between US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is expected to go ahead.

It comes after Yasser Arafat expressed his 'deep condemnation' of terrorism.

The Palestinians say the Americans have confirmed a Sunday morning meeting, with Powell joining Arafat and his other top aides.

Colin Powell had said he would not meet Arafat until the Palestinian leader condemned terrorism.

Arafat's statement said: "The Palestinian leadership and his excellency President Arafat express their deep condemnation for all the terrorist activities, whether it is state terrorism, terrorism by a group or individual terrorism."

Less than an hour later, the Palestinians said they'd been informed Powell would meet with Arafat on Sunday.
