British soldier dies after Afghan shooting accident

A British solider in the UN peacekeeping force in Afghanistan has died in hospital after he was accidentally shot in the head in the capital, Kabul, yesterday.

A spokesman said the soldier was not hit by "hostile fire", but it is still unclear whether any of his colleagues were involved in the incident, which is being investigated by British military police.

Between eight and 12 troops were patrolling a dangerous area in western Kabul when the shooting happened at around 10.50am local time.
