Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has said that the military invasion of the Palestinian West Bank will continue until all Palestinian militias have been crushed.

Mr Sharon told Israel’s parliament that the time-frame for action is limited, but it will continue "until it has dismantled Arafat’s terror infrastructure and until the murderers hiding in different places have been arrested".

In 11 days of fighting, Israel has reoccupied six of the eight main Palestinian population centres in the West Bank, trapping around one million Palestinian civilians in a closed military zone.

Even Israel’s staunchest supporter, the US, has called on Mr Sharon to end the invasion without delay, but the Israeli Prime Minister has ignored the worldwide pleas.

He revealed today that Israeli soldiers have taken 1,500 Palestinian prisoners since the latest invasion began.
