Japanese police today showed off a new weapon they may use to trap hooligans during this summer’s World Cup football finals.

The rifle-like 'Net Gun,’ unveiled by the Oita prefectural police, fires a nylon net and is capable of trapping two or three people at a time at a distance of up to 16 feet.

The nets are disposable and each shooting costs €173.

The nets will be available for use at several locations near Oita’s World Cup stadium. Oita will host several first round matches including Belgium v Tunisia and Mexico v Italy.
