Margaret's ashes to be interred with Queen Mother's coffin
Princess Margaret’s ashes are expected to be interred with the Queen Mother’s coffin in the George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor.
Since the Princess’s cremation on February 15, the casket containing her ashes has been resting in the Royal Vault at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
It is understood that the ashes will now be transferred to the George VI Memorial Chapel within St George’s when the tomb is opened for the Queen Mother’s interment.
The Queen Mother’s final resting place, beside her beloved husband King George VI, will also be the family resting place of Princess Margaret.
The Princess, who died last month after a series of strokes, broke with royal tradition and left instructions for her body to be cremated.
Margaret’s ashes were always intended to be placed with her father but it was decided not to open George VI’s vault until after the Queen Mother’s death.
In the meantime, Margaret’s casket has been resting nearby in the Royal Vault with the remains of George III, George IV and William IV.
:: No date for the Queen Mother’s funeral and interment at Windsor have yet been confirmed by Buckingham Palace, but the mourning arrangements are expected to take up to 10 days.
