New York priest gunned down during mass

A gunman opened fire at a New York church today killing two people, one of them a priest who had just finished delivering the homily.

Father Lawrence Penzes, 50, was shot during Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at Lynbrook on Long Island.

Police hunting the gunman surrounded a house in the area.

There were about 30 at the service in the Roman Catholic church. A church worker said Father Penzes had just finished delivering the homily when he was shot.
