Boston priest's victims agree multi-million dollar settlement

The Archdiocese of Boston has reached a multi-million dollar settlement with dozens of people who claimed they were sexually molested by a former Catholic priest.

Lawyers for 70 alleged victims and 16 relatives of alleged victims said the undisclosed settlement, believed to be around $21m (€24.1m) has resolved all the issues in the case.

A total of 130 people had accused John Geoghan of molesting them during his time as a priest in Boston.

Mr Geoghan is currently serving a 10-year jail term for groping a boy and is facing another criminal trial. The Archdiocese of Boston has already paid out $28m (€32.1m) to alleged victims and this latest settlement was reached in talks over the last 11 months.
