United States authorities today dropped a ban on al-Qaida suspects held at Camp X-Ray wearing turbans after prisoners went on hunger strike in protest.

But 88 detainees were still refusing food as tensions remained high at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba where 300 men from 32 countries, including five Britons, have been kept in high security since January.
