American reporter's fate unknown

There is continuing uncertainty about the fate of an American journalist kidnapped in Pakistan.

US officials are continuing efforts to trace Daniel Pearl, of the Wall Street Journal, following claims that he had been executed.

Extremists kidnapped the journalist and demanded a $2m ransom.

They also issued a demand for better treatment for Afghan inmates being held by America in Cuba.
