El Salvador: Quake victims remembered
The people of El Salvador gathered to mark the first anniversary of a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on January 13, last year, killing 844 people.
Just before noon local time, Salvadorans observed a minute of silence, marking the hour when the quake began shattering buildings and homes. A smaller quake struck one month later.
In Santa Tecla, a suburb just west of San Salvador where the worst damage occurred, former residents gathered around the spot where a hillside collapsed, burying 300 homes and more than 467 people.
