A decision by Israel to ban Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat from attending the annual Christmas service in Bethlehem was today condemned by an Ulster Unionist peer.

Lord Kilclooney, formerly the UUP MP John Taylor, said the move was a ‘‘denial of human rights and freedom of religion’’ which insulted Christians across the world.
