A gunman opened fire outside a suburban Philadelphia shopping centre late last night, killing two people and wounding a third, police said.

Authorities were still searching for the suspect early today. East Whiteland Township Police Chief Frederick Rosato said they had a description of the man but had not determined a motive for the attack.

All three victims were in their late teens or early 20s. Rosato said the only survivor of the three had been shot in the buttocks and was expected to live. Police were withholding the victims’ identities until their families could be notified.

The shooting happened at 9:39pm at the Great Valley Shopping Centre in East Whiteland Township. Rosato said one of the victims died at the shopping centre. Another died at a nearby hospital.

The third victim was also taken to hospital.

Malvern is about 19 miles west of Philadelphia.
