Guard in court accused of de Klerk's murder
A 21-year-old security guard appeared in court today accused of murdering former South African first lady Marike de Klerk.
Luyanda Mboniswa, his head bowed, showed no emotion at Cape Town High Court. The case was adjourned until December 18 to give more time for the authorities to investigate the case.
Ms de Klerk, 64, former wife of South Africa’s last white president, was strangled and stabbed in her luxury apartment a week ago.
Police say the slightly built guard, who worked at the apartment complex, has confessed to stabbing and strangling her.
The case was still under investigation and more arrests were still possible, police spokesman Wicus Holtzhausen said.
