Million dollar kidnap gang hunt in Greece

Greek police were today hunting for kidnappers who released a businessman’s son after being given a million dollars ransom.

Yiannis Zonas, 34, said he was kept blindfolded and handcuffed almost all of his two months in captivity. He was released in an Athens suburb yesterday.

His father Costas, who owns a water pump factory, had delivered $1m in cash on Monday to a location specified by the kidnappers.

Zonas said he was kidnapped by four men on October 2 as he drove home from work. He told police the men crashed into his car and then abducted him when he got out to assess the damage to his vehicle.

The kidnappers had originally asked for $2.5m but later reduced the amount to following negotiations, authorities said.
