25 drug 'mules' arrested at Heathrow

Police and customs officers have arrested 25 people flying in from Jamaica on suspicion of swallowing drugs.

All 25 are now being interviewed by detectives after being caught at Heathrow Airport.

They are likely to be charged with drug smuggling.

The swoop was part of Operation Trident, a crackdown on Jamaican crime gangs active in London.

Customs minister Paul Boateng said: "These arrests will send a clear message to the organised crime rings involved that the British government is determined to crack down on drug smuggling."

Last October, a 30-year-old woman died on a plane coming into Heathrow from Jamaica after swallowing 55 packages of cocaine.

One package burst causing a massive overdose in her system.
