Northern Alliance strengthens grip on Kunduz
The Northern Alliance has strengthened its hold on the northern Afghan city of Kunduz following the surrender of thousands of Taliban soldiers over the weekend.
The Alliance entered Kunduz yesterday, but there are still pockets of Taliban resistance in the surrounded enclave.
Hundreds more fighters, many of them Chechens, Pakistanis, Arabs and other Muslims, have fled Kunduz for the towns of Khanabad in the east and Chardara to the west.
