US leaflets tell Taliban: 'You're being watched'

US planes have dropped leaflets on Taliban fighters featuring Mullah Omar's head in gun cross-hairs.

They also feature the Taliban leader's car number plate. An unmanned spy plane took the picture.

The leaflets bear the words: "We are watching!" and feature a pair of eyes.

US Army spokesman Lt Col Steve Campbell told a British tabloid: "It is a pretty clear message to these guys - we are watching and we will get you.

"I think if you saw a picture of yourself with a pair of cross-hairs over it you would feel pretty uncomfortable and that is the general idea."

The Pentagon says 16 million leaflets in English and Pashtu have been printed.

Some leaflets aimed directly at Taliban fighters urge them to surrender or show an American soldier and an Afghan shaking hands.

One leaflet intended to stir up civilian opposition to the regime shows a Taliban man brutally beating a woman wearing the head-to-toe Afghan veil. The caption next to the picture reads: "Do you want your women and your children to live this way?"
