The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff has confirmed that more US ground troops have been deployed in Afghanistan following the carpet-bombing of Taliban frontline positions over the last week.

General Richard Myers said the US military has managed to get "a couple more" teams into the country to help the opposition Northern Alliance and guide US missiles.
