Peeping tom gangster held after gun shots

Peeping Tom gangster opened fire after being caught looking up a woman’s skirt at a crowded Tokyo train station today. Two people were injured, police said.

The shooting occurred as police tried to question the man for apparently taking the peek with a hand-held mirror, said spokesman Kenichi Mizuno.

In an effort to scare off police, the man suddenly took a handgun from a plastic bag and fired at the floor, Mizuno said.

The incident happened near an exit from a station in Kobe, 270 miles west of Tokyo.

A 57-year-old passer-by suffered a cut to his chin by a piece of flying concrete broken off as a bullet hit the floor.

A policeman also suffered cuts and bruises in his forehead, after being smashed by the suspect’s handgun, Mizuno added.

The suspect, who identified himself as Masakazu Kubota, 52, was arrested on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder, obstructing police duty and illegal gun possession.

Police said the man is a known gangster.

Sannomiya is Kobe’s major business and entertainment district. It is also home to Japan’s largest underworld syndicate, the Yamaguchi-gumi.
