Northern Alliance captures key Afghan province

The Northern Alliance opposition force in Afghanistan claimed today that it has seized a key central province from the ruling Taliban following heavy overnight fighting.

Mohammed Abil, an Alliance spokesman, said the Gur province, including the capital, Chaghcharan, fell to opposition forces shortly after midnight.
