Macedonia suspends operations against NLA
The Slav-dominated Macedonian Government has suspended its operation to retake control of areas held by the ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army following pressure from the EU.
Senior European officials held talks with both sides in Skopje today, demanding that the Macedonian Government honour a peace deal signed last month.
The deal said the NLA could retain control of several northern areas until the Government introduces new legislation guaranteeing equal rights for ethnic Albanians.
