Two face court in Britain under anti-terror act
Two men were today due to appear in British court over separate offences under Britain's Terrorism Act.
Chef Sulayman Balal Zainulabidin, 43, from Greenwich, south east London, and London-based Algerian Amar Makhlulif, 36, were due to have their cases heard at Belmarsh magistrates court, south east London.
Zainulabidin, who worked at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London, faces two offences of training others how to use weapons after being charged by Scotland Yard last night.
He faces one count which relates to ‘‘providing instruction or training in the making or use of firearms, explosives, or chemical, biological or nuclear weapons’’.
He faces a second charge that he ‘‘invited others as yet unknown to receive training in the making or use of firearms, explosives, or chemical, biological or nuclear weapons’’.
Makhlulif is charged in connection with an alleged plot to blow up Los Angeles airport. It is part of an extradition hearing brought by the US.
Known as The Doctor, he has been named by US prosecutors as a key figure in Osama bin Laden’s network and a mastermind of the thwarted attempt to bomb LA airport during the Millennium celebrations.
