Macedonia: Robertson arrives

Nato Secretary General Lord Robertson was today arriving in Macedonia to urge full implementation of remaining parts of a peace plan for the troubled Balkan country.

Nato Secretary General Lord Robertson was today arriving in Macedonia to urge full implementation of remaining parts of a peace plan for the troubled Balkan country.

Lord Robertson was meeting leaders of the Macedonian majority, who are committed under the Western-backed plan to changing the constitution to give broader rights to the restive ethnic Albanian minority.

Even before the formal end of Nato’s weapons collection tomorrow, ethnic Albanian militants kept their part of the bargain by handing over to Nato troops more than 3,300 firearms from pistols to a T-55 tank in exchange for promised political reform.
