Blast rocks Taliban ministry

A bomb blast has rocked the Taliban's ministerial offices in Afghanistan, according to reports just in.

An unknown number of people have been wounded, it is not yet known if there have been fatalities.

The blast, described as a powerful bomb, exploded in the anti-crime department offices of the interior ministry in Kabul.

The victims are mainly officials of the hardline Islamic fundamentalist regime.

"I don't know about deaths, some of the wounded were in critical condition and it was a big explosion and many windows have been broken as a result," a witness is reported as saying.

There was no official comment about the blast and nobody had so far claimed responsibility.

The hardline Taliban, who control around 95 per cent of Afghanistan, have blamed previous blasts on opposition forces loyal to veteran guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Masood.

Masood, the military chief of the government toppled by the Taliban in 1996, says previous blasts were the work of disgruntled Taliban officials.
