Liz Hurley is being replaced as the face of Estee Lauder make-up and skincare by a supermodel 10 years her junior.

Hurley will continue to appear in the company's fragrance adverts but the rest of the brand will be represented by US model Carolyn Murphy.

The decision ends a seven-year deal in which the 36-year-old actress was the sole face of the brand.

Estee Lauder says the decision was mutual and was made to allow Hurley more time for her film work.

"The joint decision to re-define Ms Hurley's involvement in Estee Lauder's advertising campaigns was made in an effort to accommodate her expanding film and producing projects," a company spokeswoman said.

It is the first time Estee Lauder has been represented by two models and marked a "unique" chapter in the firm's history, she said.

Hurley said she "couldn't be happier" with the new arrangement, under which she will also make personal appearances in aid of breast cancer awareness, a cause which Estee Lauder supports.

Hurley signed a £2.15m deal late last year but the spokeswoman refused to disclose details of Murphy's contract.

Murphy was chosen as the company's new face for her "classic American style" and her first advertising campaign will appear next January, the spokeswoman said.

The 26-year-old, who was named model of the year at the VH1 Fashion Awards in 1998, said: "I'm looking forward to joining this inspirational roster of women who have personified the image of beauty for Estee Lauder over the years. This is an incredible opportunity."
