Milosevic launches legal challenge to detention
Slobodan Milosevic’s lawyers have asked a Dutch court to release their client from prison in the Hague on the grounds that his extradition from Belgrade was illegal.
The former Yugoslav dictator’s legal team have also claimed that his human rights are being abused at a UN detention centre near the War Crimes Tribunal complex in the Netherlands.
Milosevic, who has spent seven weeks in the Hague, said at his arraignment hearing last month that he believes the tribunal is illegitimate because it was established by the UN Security Council and not the General Assembly.
