12,000 take part in Great Scottish Run

The annual Great Scottish Run in Glasgow has attracted 12,000 people to take part.

The half-marathon attracted 10,000 runners and started with a colourful firework display.

The Bank of Scotland Junior Great Scottish Run for youngsters aged nine to 17 attracted 2,000 entrants.

This year's event marked both the UK Half Marathon Championships and the Scottish Half Marathon Championships.

The men's race was won by K Padessa, of Belgrave Harriers, in 64 mins 4 seconds, while L Yelling, of Bedford, took the women's race in 72 minutes 24 seconds.

Athletes rubbed shoulders with other runners who used the race to raise money for charity.

The 3km race started at Glasgow Green and every participant received a medal, a T-shirt and a certificate.
