Great train robber Ronnie Biggs today underwent an emergency blood transfusion after being taken to hospital.

Great train robber Ronnie Biggs today underwent an emergency blood transfusion after being taken to hospital.

Biggs, 72, was being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Greenwich, London after being transferred from top-security Belmarsh Prison in south-east London.

It is feared Biggs may have suffered internal bleeding.

The robber, who was on the run for 35 years before returning from exile in Brazil this year, has been in poor health and was being fed by a tube.
