Clashes continue despite Macedonian peace deal

A fresh outbreak of fighting in northern Macedonia has thrown doubt on whether the country's minority ethnic Albanians and majority Slavs will sign a peace accord as planned tomorrow.

Macedonia's Defence Ministry claimed government troops came under heavy fire last night from rebels in the village of Radusa, near the border with Kosovo.

There were also clashes in the city of Tetovo, while helicopter gunships were seen over the capital, Skopje.

Macedonians believe the violence is proof that the National Liberation Army rebels are not interested in peace.
