Venice rocked by bomb blast

A suspected bomb blast rocked a Venice courthouse near the Rialto bridge in the heart of the lagoon city today, damaging the building and nearby shops. A policeman on guard duty was injured.

Initially firemen suspected leaking gas may have caused the blast, which occurred around 4 am in an area jammed with tourists during the day. But authorities later said the blast may have been caused by a bomb.
